Share your thoughts on LVT Scope of Practice

Posted By: Elaine Sheikh Industry News,

To All Michigan Veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians:

The Michigan Veterinary Medical Association and the Michigan Association of Veterinary Technicians have been working together through a joint task force to explore scope of practice for Licensed Veterinary Technicians (LVTs) in Michigan.

We invite you to participate in an important survey to help shape the future of LVT utilization in Michigan.

This survey is designed to gather your feedback on proposed clinical tasks and appropriate supervision levels for LVTs in practice, workforce realities, barriers to LVT utilization, and opportunities for improvement. Your input will directly inform recommendations aimed at supporting safe, effective care while allowing LVTs to practice at the top of their training.

Recognizing that many practices are currently navigating staffing challenges, your perspective is essential. This survey also seeks feedback on the current LVT workforce, the potential for expanding the roles of LVTs and those with Veterinary Technician Specialties (VTS), and the concept of a mid-level practitioner.

Take the Survey

The survey should take approximately 20 minutes to complete. All responses will be kept confidential and used to guide thoughtful, data-driven decisions.

Respondents who opt to share their contact information will be entered into a drawing for one of several gift cards. The survey is open through May 21, 2026.

Thank you for sharing your expertise and helping to strengthen the veterinary profession in Michigan.

Sincerely,
